UPDATED: Governor responds to mass shootings

Gov. Laura Kelly on Sunday called for "common sense gun-safety laws" in the aftermath of mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton as well as the fatal shooting of the daughter of a Leawood pastor on Friday night.

"This is not normal," Kelly said of the latest shootings in Texas and Ohio that claimed 29 lives in less than 24 hours.

"We are in the midst of a public health crisis and we should not wait for another gun-related tragedy to occur to take action."
