UPDATED: Former Wellington lawmaker dies at 93

Former Republican state Rep. Billie Ray "Bill" McCreary of Wellington died last week in Kansas City. He was 93.

McCreary was a longtime grocer and former representative for the 80th House District. He served in the Legislature from 1997 to 2006.

"He was known for his conservative values and dedication to his constituents," according to his obituary.

He graduated from Joplin High School in 1950 and later joined the the U.S. Air Force in 1952. He studied Russian at the Army Language School in Monterey, California, according to his
