Former transportation secretary running for House


Former Kansas Transportation Secretary Mike King on Saturday announced that he was running for the House seat that will come open with incumbent Stephen Owens' plan to run for state Senate.

Transportation secretary under former Republican Gov. Sam Brownback, King appeared on conservative talk radio in Wichita to reveal his plans to run for House District 74, which covers parts of Hesston, Hillsboro and North Newton.

King served as transportation secretary from 2012 to 2016 when hundreds of millions of dollars were moved out of the Transportation Department to help offset deficits in the state budget that were blamed on . . .
