Five takeaways from Kelly’s last State of the State Address

As she addressed the Kansas Legislature for the last time as governor, Laura Kelly reflected on the past, looked to the future and preached a message of civility.

She recalled the successes of her last seven years in offices but attributed them to an ability to overcome partisan division to get things done.

She extolled efforts to cure the state's fiscal health following an era of tax cuts that were blamed for leaving holes in the state budget.

She said the state's quality of life improved and people's perceptions of Kansans changed.
