Curtis picks up primary opponent in KCK district

A Johnson County Community College student on Tuesday announced he was launching a primary challenge against Democratic state Rep. Pam Curtis.

Oscar Irenia announced his candidacy for the House District 32 seat on Facebook, saying he wanted to bring more diversity to the Capitol and inspire young voters.

"The are 62 spoken languages in my county, in my district," he said. "I think we need someone who's going to represent them at the state Capitol."

Irenia, 20, said he thought Curtis represented the district well, but added that voters needed someone who reflected the diversity of the community.
