Former Republican Gov. Jeff Colyer on Monday took a key step toward running for governor next year with the appointment of a campaign treasurer.
Colyer has named Assistant House Majority Leader Kyle Hoffman of Coldwater treasurer of his campaign for governor.
Colyer has not officially announced his campaign for governor, although he's expected to officially join the field, possibly later this week.
"Kyle is a leading voice for rural Kansas and a great advocate for fiscal responsibility and conservative values," Colyer said in announcing the choice of Hoffman as campaign treasurer.
