Republican precinct members in Wichita on Saturday morning elected Republican state House candidate Michael Capps to serve out the term of state Rep. Chuck Weber.
Weber vacated the seat to take a job as the executive director of the Kansas Catholic Conference, the public policy arm of the Catholic Church in Kansas.
Weber represented the 85th House District, which covers parts of Sedgwick and Benton counties.
It is a deeply conservative district that once was represented by conservative state Rep. Steve Brunk and has gone for President Donald Trump and former Gov. Sam Brownback in recent years.
