Republican upstart Mike Brown defeated longtime Republican activist Helen Van Etten to become the new chair of the state Republican Party.
Brown, a former Johnson County Commissioner, was elected to lead the Kansas Republican Party about six months after he unsuccessfully ran for secretary of state against Republican Scott Schwab in a campaign in which he sowed doubt about the outcome of state-run elections.
He edged Van Etten 90-88.
