Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab on Friday named Westwood Chief Administrative Officer Fred Sherman as Johnson County's new election commissioner.
Sherman has been appointed deputy election security commissioner for 2020 and will take the helm as Johnson County election commissioner by next Jan. 4.
Meanwhile, former longtime Johnson County Election Commissioner Connie Schmidt has been hired to oversee the 2020 elections.
Schmidt has 31 years of local government experience, which includes her work as Johnson County election commissioner from 1995 to 2004.
