Atchison County reopens voter registration under threat of legal action

The county clerk has agreed to reopen registration for city of Atchison voters who want to cast ballots in the Aug. 2 primary after the American Civil Liberties Union threatened to go to court over a decision to shorten the registration period.

The legal director for the ACLU of Kansas said Friday morning that the Atchison County clerk indicated she would allow voters within the city of Atchison to register to vote through the July 12 state deadline.
