Around-the-clock alcohol sales for World Cup gets cool greeting

A proposal to allow around-the-clock alcohol sales during the World Cup in Kansas City is running into an obstacle in the Kansas Senate.

The bill was assigned to the Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee where the chair is not enamored with the idea put forward in a bill introduced by Republican state Sen. Adam Thomas of Olathe.

"I have real concerns about that," said Republican state Sen. Mike Thompson of Shawnee.

"The bars may like it, but I just hate to make that type of exception . . .
