Cities and counties are seeking nearly five times more money than what's available from a new state transportation program to fund projects that might not get done without state aid.
The Kansas Department of Transportation reported receiving $245 million in requests for a slice of $50 million approved by the Legislature last session. A portion of the new money comes from state revenues that exceeded estimates.
