Kansas launches real-time auto insurance verification

The state on Wednesday launched a new real-time method for verifying auto insurance coverage that's intended to give law enforcement a new way to keep uninsured drivers off the road and help reduce insurance costs.

The new system authorized by the Legislature last year makes Kansas among about 20 states nationally that have similar initiatives in place to better crack down on uninsured drivers traveling the state’s highways.

Instead of just confirming insurance coverage when a vehicle is registered, during a traffic stop or after a crash, the state will now be quickly notified when auto insurance . . .
