Kelly vetoes bill blocking planning for new KanCare program

Gov. Laura Kelly on Friday vetoed a bill blocking the state from seeking new proposals for its Medicaid program until after this fall's campaign for governor.

The bill, which her administration battled against vigorously throughout the legislative session, effectively locks the state’s contracts in place with three managed care companies that administer the Medicaid program.

The current contracts with the companies expire at the end of 2023, and the legislation would most likely extend the contracts beyond that date without a bid because of the . . .
