A new candidate has emerged for the Kansas House seat that's coming open with state Rep. Mike Thompson's decision to leave the Legislature for family reasons.
Edwardsville Mayor Carolyn Caiharr confirmed that she was interested in running for the House District 33 seat that Thompson has held since 2023.
Precinct committee leaders will meet Saturday to choose Thompson's replacement.
Thompson — not the state senator from Shawnee — announced his resignation at a Wyandotte Republican Party event late last month. His resignation is effective Aug. 31 . . .
