State legislative leaders kept alive hopes of luring the Chiefs and Royals to Kansas when they voted Monday to extend the sunset of tax incentives intended to entice the teams to hopscotch across the state line.

The Legislative Coordinating Council on Monday voted to extend the incentives package until June 30, 2026, although lawmakers expressly said they want a deal completed by either one of the teams by the end of this year.

Under the law, the council was required to extend the incentives for a year . . .
