Opponents of electing Supreme Court justices roll out new ads; campaign spending surpasses $3 million

Two different groups opposing a constitutional amendment calling for the election of Kansas Supreme Court justices went on the air Tuesday with two new ads as total broadcast spending on the campaign now nears $3.5 million.

The Kansas Fair Courts Fund and Kansas United for Impartial Courts started running ads statewide on Tuesday opposing a ballot measure that would scrap a system where a nine-person screening committee - five lawyers elected by their peers and four people appointed the governor - recommend three nominees to the court . . .
