Judicial amendment campaign shapes up; outside group books nearly $1 million in ads

The battle over a constitutional amendment that will decide whether justices are elected to the state Supreme Court is taking shape as an emerging group with conservative connections has booked hundreds of thousands of dollars in ad buys.

Kansans for Democracy, a social nonprofit group that is not required to disclose its donors, has booked about $802,000 in ads to run from July 7 through Aug. 4, the date the amendment will be on the ballot, according to a national ad tracking service.
