House Speaker Dan Hawkins is planning an announcement on May 13, presumably to run for state insurance commissioner.
Hawkins has sent out an invite for a "big announcement" that will be held at noon May 13 at the Kansas Contractors Association in Topeka.
Hawkins did not get any more specific, but it's generally known that he's been interested in running for insurance commissioner.
However, it's is still unclear what Republican incumbent Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt plans to do in the future.
Schmidt, who amassed more votes than any statewide candidate in 2022, is believed to be considering . . .
