House eliminates ‘midnight rule’ for work

The Kansas House on Thursday removed a rule that was intended to keep the chamber from working after midnight that was adopted after former state Rep. Bob Bethell died in a car wreck returning home from Topeka.

Republican state Rep. Samantha Poetter Parshall of Paola asked the House to amend its rules on Thursday to restore the so-called "midnight rule," which had been removed from the rules as they came out of committee. The rule change was voted down 41-82.
