Judge decides to keep Kobach videotape sealed in voting-rights case

A federal judge on Thursday refused to make public a deposition of Secretary of State Kris Kobach in the lawsuit over his proof-of-citizenship requirement for voting.

U.S. District Judge Julie Robinson ruled that the video deposition Kobach gave as part of the proceedings in the case "is not a public record that may be copied and disseminated outside of this litigation."

The judge added that "the public’s right to access the videotape was satisfied when it was played in open court at trial . . .
