Kansas Democrats are reporting more than a 300% increase in voter turnout for this year's May 2 presidential primary over the 2016 caucuses.

The party has reported already receiving 138,430 ballots for the upcoming primary, a 352% increase over the 2016 caucuses in which 39,266 Democrats participated.

Four years ago, just 8.72% of Democrats participated in the caucuses won by Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton.

The party mailed out more than 400,000 ballots, which as of Tuesday would give it a turnout of about 35%.
