Kansas is one step away from phasing out the state sales tax on food, although Democrats said the bill waits too long to give consumers tax relief at the grocery store.
The Kansas Senate on Wednesday voted unanimously to pass a bill that calls for cutting the state’s 6.5% sales tax on groceries to 4% by Jan. 1, 2023.
The tax would be reduced to 2% in 2024 and then ultimately to zero by 2025.
Local governments would still be able to collect sales tax . . .
